Why make this?
During the Covid-19 pandemic, many churches had to shift from meeting in person to meeting online, including my own. As the one in charge of IT matters, I had to find solutions to the new problems that live-streaming and recording now presented.
One of these problems was Bible display. Alongside OBS Studio for the streaming and recording, I used a free church presentation software to show both lyrics and Bible verses, but there were a number of problems with it. Among other things, it was complicated to set up, was difficult to get the verses to look right, and above all, took up to a second to switch verses. The last issue was remedied if I connected the computer to an external monitor, but that introduced even greater complexity.
Turning to the Internet, I looked for some kind of software that could help. However, many of them relied on weird hacks, complex setups, or full-fledged church presentation software that was way beyond my budget. Dissatisfied with the options available and being a software developer myself, I decided to try my hand at making a solution.
I had a number of goals while developing the plugin, but there were a few that were particularly important to me. My plugin had to be fast, integrated with OBS Studio (I didn't want to keep switching programs), able to search for verses on the fly (oftentimes I did not know what verses were to be quoted in advance), and look good no matter how long a verse was (because some Bible verses are very short while others are long).
It took many months of work, but here it is: Bible Plugin for OBS Studio, a labor of love by a software developer from Indonesia. It is my prayer that you find this plugin useful.
